Experiences
Todos Santos, Mexico

My in-laws decided to skip the Florida snowbird thing and do it in Cabo instead.  Jackpot! So while we become Cabo residents for 3 weeks over the holidays, I like to take a couple days to explore other areas in Mexico.  This past year (or two), the global pandemic had me craving more relaxation and less flights full of masks and anxiety.

Enter Paradero.  A quick little hour plus drive from San Jose del Cabo and the answer to my desert dreams if my desert dreams were filled with cool AF hotel rooms and tacos.

I’m filing this under one of my favorite hotels ever.  It’s architecturally interesting, incredibly special, and has a vibe that’s sort of like Tulum meets the desert meets a fancy organic farm. We stayed in their Cacti View Sky Suite which includes a panoramic rooftop and “star net” which is essentially a hammock suspended in the sky.  The indoor/outdoor set up is zen, but luxe. You didn’t think I’d be camping, did you?  The bedroom connects to the bathroom through an open air passage and even features a shower with a fully open window (if you chose) to get that outdoor shower experience.

The reservation comes with varying amounts of included experiences, depending on what type of room you book – morning or sunset hikes, art walk in Todos Santos, surf lessons, temazcal, yoga, and more.

One to highlight was the sunset hike. While it was more of an easy walk, we got sticks to cut through the grass so needless to say, we were pretty excited about that hiking accessory.  The scenery was straight out of Jurassic Park which then opened up to the most beautiful wide bay of flat sand leading to a never ending sparkling ocean, shallow enough to walk through.  Wild horses frolicked in the sand, as if they were perfectly placed there to frame the sunset.

And the restaurant.  Wow.  Go just for the sweet local woman whose only job is to make fresh tortillas. The tacos were some of the best I’ve had as the chef comes from Pujol in Mexico City But the entire menu is fantastic.

To end the night, the Paradero staff will build a fire on your personal rooftop sky deck.  Perfecto.

Stay tuned to hear more about the town of Todos Santos…
